You’re curious to know what a life without internalizing shame and guilt feels like. A life where you feel confident asking for what you want and where you put your needs first.
Part of you feels ready, the other part is unsure if therapy will end up being another quick fix that doesn’t treat the underlying frustration you feel.
I understand how scary it could be to trust someone new. You may feel afraid of being judged because of your experiences or your past. To me, authenticity and genuineness are fundamental in therapy. You’ve had to perform and pretend to be someone else for so long, it is important that therapy feels like a place where all parts of you are accepted.
I get it. I understand what it’s like to be rewarded for self- abandonment. You might walk on eggshells because you were made to feel responsible for your loved ones’ emotions. I too went years without voicing my opinions and needs out of fear of being “too sensitive” or “too much”- is that even a thing?
You associated having needs with being an inconvenience to others. Now, when you have difficult emotions, you feel ashamed. I know you don’t want to hear this, but the only way through is through. You must feel it in order to heal it. In therapy, we will work towards befriending those emotions and feeling them without becoming overwhelmed by them.
The fear of failure ruminates in your head every day. It drives your decisions and leaves you over performing and feeling depleted. You attempt to multitask to get everything on your to- do list done. You constantly have to make corrections and feel a deep sense of shame every time you do. I believe we can’t shame our way into change. The goal is not to shame the version of you who feels the need to perform, but to teach them that it is safe to be themselves now.

Who is she when she’s not psychoanalyzing me?
I love traveling; visiting new places and throwing on an outfit that makes me feel like a local does something to my brain. I enjoy moving my body four times a week, through lifting weights, running, or pilates. Having an iced matcha latte at a cute coffee shop is something I absolutely look forward to every week. When I’m not engaging in any of the activities previously mentioned, I am a daughter, sister, auntie, and friend. Building connection and community is important to me; I don’t believe we were meant to live in isolation and I’m slowly learning that it really does take a village.
What we work on in therapy, I am working on at home too. It is only because of the internal work I too do that I am able to guide my clients to a life of emotional harmony and authenticity. The fear of being rejected weighs heavy on many, it is my mission to be my authentic and quirky self in session to ensure that you too give yourself permission to be the person you’ve gone years trying to unbecome.
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
